ON THIS THE OCCASION OF HISTORY’S FIRST TRUE CIVIL WAR…

For over fifteen years America has been engulfed in an escalating civil war. I cannot say exactly when it began, as there were no calls to arms, no shots fired, no states seceding. That may soon no longer be the case.
Still. one could argue that this current Civil War, the Third, is but an extension of History’s First True Civil War, which began, oddly enough, on July 4th, 1776.
Yes, there was another Civil War, the Second, in 1860, but those stakes were different. Today the stakes are remarkably similar to those first trumpeted and resolved in Philadelphia 238 years ago. Then, as now, the war was between two irreconcilable views as to how men’s lives should be lived in this world…free or under the boot of a sovereign. Then, as now, both sides intractably viewed the other as Evil while viewing itself as Good.
We know that when two such views collide, there can be no compromise, no sharing of power, no treaties, only a fight to unconditional surrender or death…when the loser will go into the dark, re-emerging to try it all over again another two hundred years hence.
In 1776 the forces of Good stood up to gain what rightly had belonged to Man since the beginning of time…his Liberty…and his seat at the head of History’s table…replacing the forces of Power and Servitude, who had ruled there since Man first began to take note of such events.
As we who are about to embark on the final leg of this fight…
…we who are about do battle…
…salute you few who risked all to start it all in 1776.

To those against whom we are about to do battle…
           …we only say…
           “Laisser les bons temps rouler.”
